As part of its ongoing work on building productive capacities for structural economic transformation, UNCTAD will organize a capacity building training for statistical experts of Rwanda to assist in evidence-based policymaking in these areas.

UNCTAD will also brainstorm with the relevant institutions of Rwanda on the newly developed “Rwanda Programme” for transformational development of the country.  In this context, UNCTAD discusses the Rwanda Comprehensive Programme of Support, which aims at fostering productive capacities, export diversification and structural transformation in Rwanda. This will build on the objectives outlined in the country's Vision 2050. Specifically, the programme addresses the binding constraints on exports, develops a business plan for Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Industrial Parks (IPs), enhances the role of private sector development and harnesses the potential of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for trade and economic development

UNCTAD is also invited to participating in the 6th Annual Economic Research Conference organized by the Economic Policy Research Network (EPRN Rwanda) of Rwanda. The event gathers national and international researchers, academics, professionals and other relevant decision makers around the topic of “Building Productive Capacities for Structural Economic Transformation” and is an opportunity to suggest innovative policy solutions towards sound economic development. It is interesting to note that Rwanda has dedicated this year's EPRN Conference to the above-mentioned theme, indicating the impact of UNCTAD’s work on domestic policy deliberations on issues of trade and economic development.

Co-organizer(s):
