Latin American Partnership sends regional response to IPSASB’s consultation on sustainability reporting
The Latin American Partnership for the promotion of sustainability and SDG reporting held its first meeting of the year on 17th February 2025.
The meeting was chaired by Flavia Fernandez from CCEA Uruguay who made a presentation on partnership objectives, methods of work, current membership and the new year’s agenda. She also spoke of the importance of sustainability reporting and the different components of a corporate reporting ecosystem at the national level.
After this, Isabel Garza Rodríguez, from UNCTAD spoke about UNCTAD’s policy guide on tackling the sustainability reporting challenge at the national level.
She presented information on the different policy options and recommendations that countries can use to strengthen their regulation, institutions and human capacity to promote high quality sustainability reporting for listed companies, not listen companies (including SMEs) and the public sector entities.
Then, Ms. Ana Tercia Rodrigues, vice president of the CBPS (Brazil) explained the recent national sustainability reporting developments and requirements that Brazil has adopted for listed companies; she provided information about the institutional setting in Brazil and the new regulations issued to comply with IFRS S1 and S2; finally, she explained the characteristics of the sustainability information and made emphasis on the need to have information that is verifiable and reliable to avoid greenwashing.
Afterwards, Jessica Magana from CINIF (Mexico) made a presentation of the Sustainability reporting exposure draft Climate-related Disclosures published by the IPSASB. After this presentation, partnership members shared their views on the consultation document to prepare a regional response and voice Latin America’s challenges to implement the proposed standard.
The meeting was attended by 33 (18 women) participants.
