The Ministry of Digital Transformation, Innovation and Modernization of the Administration of Mauritania (MTNIMA), with the support of the E-Commerce and Digital Economy Branch of UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is leading the development of the Mauritania’s National E-commerce Strategy.
The development of this strategy is a key recommendation of the eTrade Readiness Assessment of Mauritania which was conducted by UNCTAD in 2023 and launched in 2024.
In this context, the MTNIMA and UNCTAD are organizing multi-stakeholder consultations on 17 and 18 June 2025 in Nouakchott.
Building on multi-stakeholder engagement, the consultations aim to refine the draft strategy, with a view to making it inclusive and impactful in promoting sustainable e-commerce growth. By incorporating diverse perspectives from policymakers, industry leaders, academia and civil society representatives, the consultations will help to ensure that the strategy is aligned with national priorities and global best practices.
The National E-commerce Strategy of Mauritania is being developed with financial contribution from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the ECDE Core Donors (Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, and The Kingdom of the Netherlands).
