The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour of Samoa, with the support of UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is spearheading the development of the National E-commerce Policy of Samoa.
The development of this policy is a key recommendation from the National E-commerce Strategy which outlines a framework and strategic activities to strengthen the country’s e-commerce ecosystem.
While the strategy provides the overarching direction, the National E-commerce Policy will establish a regulatory framework to foster a secure, competitive, and trustworthy digital marketplace for users (businesses and consumers), addressing crucial areas like data management, consumer protection, intellectual property, and competition.
Building on multi-stakeholder engagement, the consultations seek to refine the draft policy, ensuring it is inclusive, relevant, and impactful in promoting sustainable e-commerce growth.
By incorporating diverse perspectives from policymakers, industry leaders, and civil society representatives, these consultations will help shape a resilient digital economy for Samoa, aligning with national priorities and global e-commerce trends.
This initiative is part of the Pacific Digital Economy Programme, a joint initiative delivered by UNCDF, UNDP, and UN Trade and Development to support the development of inclusive digital economies in the Pacific.
The Pacific Digital Economy Programme is supported by the European Union, and the Governments of Australia and New Zealand.
