UNCTAD, together with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition of South Africa, organized the meeting of the Steering Committee for the implementation of the National Action Plan of the 11th Tranche Development Account Project "Enabling Policy Frameworks for Enterprise Business Sustainability and SDG Reporting in Africa and Latin America".

The objective of the meeting was to define the role of the committee, validate it, confirm the structure of the group executive management, develop a meeting calendar, and validate the list of activities identified.

The steering committee's proposed objectives are split into two prominent functions, substantial and operational. The substantial one includes the coordination between government agencies and other relevant parties to provide stronger cooperation with international organizations; including advising the regulators on the adoption and implementation of the upcoming ISSB Standards at the national level as well as the adoption of the objectives of the action plan to establishing national strategies for SDG and Sustainability Reporting. The operational role focuses more on the coordinating work of the operational working groups. The committee will also monitor the implementation progress against the action plan; organize annual meetings for the working groups and set annual targets to ensure the overall objectives are attained. The participation and commitment of all the stakeholders is critical for the successful implementation of the action plan.
