The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour (MCIL) of Samoa, with the support of UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is spearheading the development of the National E-commerce Policy of Samoa. The development of this policy is a key recommendation from Samoa’s National E-commerce Strategy which outlines a framework and strategic activities to strengthen the country’s e-commerce ecosystem. While the strategy provides the overarching direction, the National E-commerce Policy will establish a regulatory framework to foster a secure, competitive, and trustworthy digital marketplace for users (businesses and consumers), addressing crucial areas like data management, consumer protection, intellectual property, and competition.

Building on earlier multi-stakeholder engagement, this 2 day workshop centres on reviewing,  and validating the draft policy to ensure it is inclusive, relevant, and effective in fostering sustainable e-commerce growth by incorporating diverse perspectives from policymakers, industry leaders, and civil society representatives.

This initiative is part of the Pacific Digital Economy Programme (PDEP), a joint initiative delivered by UNCDF, UNDP, and UNCTAD to support the development of inclusive digital economies in the Pacific. PDEP is supported by the European Union, and the Governments of Australia and New Zealand.
