UNCTAD in cooperation with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya organized a Seminar on ESG and Sustainability reporting as a capacity-building activity for the Development Account 11th Tranche Project on Enabling policy frameworks for enterprise sustainability and SDG reporting in Africa and Latin America. The meeting took place in Nairobi on 31 May 2022.
The seminar helped to address one of the key findings from the Accounting Development Tool assessment that identified a need for awareness creation and building the capacity of Kenyan professionals in sustainability and SDG reporting. Good quality corporate reports are critical in attracting investments and allowing the users of those reports to make informed decisions. The workshop was attended by 47 participants drawn from different sectors and organizations in Kenya.
The workshop began with opening remarks by Ms Mandisa Mashologu of UNDP Kenya. UNCTAD provided a brief introduction to the United Nations Development Account 11th Tranche Project and the results achieved throughout the implementation of the project activities. The external guest speakers guided participants through the agenda topics, while the panel discussion incentivized them to explore developments in the sustainability and ESG space as well as the status of corporate reporting in Kenya.
