UNCTAD’s project “Sustainable Smart Ports for African countries” seeks to strengthen capacities of selected countries in Africa in building Sustainable Smart Ports (SSP) that promote sustainable energy and technology-driven solutions for sustainable development.

In this context, an SSP Assessment Report for Tanger Med, which will include recommendations and action plan/roadmap to be discussed and validated at national workshop is foreseen. The SSP assessment of Tanger Med, based on UNCTAD methodology, aims to guide local stakeholders in enhancing the port's SSP status.

The purpose of this meeting is to foster collaboration with key stakeholders, a critical step for the preparation of the assessment report. To achieve this, the meeting envisages introducing the project objectives and steps involved in the preparation of the report and discussing priorities and on-going initiatives of Tanger Med related to the energy transition in port operations.

Key stakeholders participating in the dialogue include, among others, the Tanger Med Port Authority, the Directorate of Ports and Maritime Affairs Port Terminals, shipping lines, trucking companies, tug services, the Ministry of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, and the Ministry of Environment and Energy Transition.
