Amid global uncertainty and recurring external shocks, the mounting debt burdens of developing countries call for cooperation among borrower nations.

The United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has been convening a series of meetings among borrower countries to discuss the shared challenges.

These discussions highlight a strong and growing demand for peer learning between borrower countries to enhance institutional capacity and amplify collective knowledge.

The worsening debt pressures in the developing world requires more opportunities for more constructive knowledge sharing between borrowing countries, including around debt restructuring through the G20 Common Framework (CF).

Peer learning among borrowing countries enables knowledge and capacity building, and can ultimately lead to better and more streamlined processes.

Against this background, this study tour brings together colleagues from the ministries of finance of Ethiopia and Zambia to discuss various aspects of the CF debt restructuring.

As the two countries are at different stages of CF debt restructurings, a structured dialogue between the technical teams can unlock significant value through knowledge sharing and peer learning.

The event provides a valuable opportunity for Ethiopia to gain more clarity on the CF restructuring process and for reflection on Zambia's CF experience to preserve key insights.
