UNCTAD serves as Secretariat to the Ad hoc Committee of the General Assembly on sovereign debt restructuring processes

The second working session of the General Assembly Ad hoc Committee on debt restructuring processes will take place from 28 to Thursday, 30 April 2015, UNHQ in New York.

The Ad hoc Committee was established pursuant to General Assembly resolution 69/247 of 29 December 2014. UNCTAD is supporting the work of the Bureau to the Ad Hoc Committeee.

  • Guiding Principles: Legitimacy, Impartiality, Transparency, Good Faith and Sustainability

  • Latest developments in contractual approach and why it is not enough

  • Problems of Litigation against Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPCs)

  • Potential for a hybrid approach and building consensus around it
