As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes an essential tool in regulatory and enforcement efforts, consumer protection agencies face both opportunities and challenges in integrating AI into their work.
AI can enhance enforcement efficiency, improve detection of unfair market practices, and strengthen decision-making processes. However, its deployment requires careful consideration of transparency, accountability, and ethical use.
Recognizing these challenges, the UNCTAD informal working group on consumer protection in e-commerce (WGE) has been actively exploring the intersection of AI and consumer protection.
As a result of this work, the WGE is developing a checklist for enforcement authorities deploying AI to support them in adopting AI tools responsibly and effectively.
This webinar will provide a platform for consumer protection authorities to share their experiences in AI deployment.
Experts from El Salvador, Poland, the Republic of Korea Thailand and Zambia will present their approaches and discuss the challenges they have encountered in integrating AI into their enforcement activities.
The session will also serve as an opportunity to gather insights for the AI checklist, ensuring it becomes a practical tool for consumer protection agencies planning to implement AI.
