This workshop is intended to relate the concepts of productive capacities and structural economic transformation to Mozambique’s development endeavors, including policy implications for inclusive growth and sustainable development. It aims at assessing the current trends in socio-economic development of Mozambique, progress achieved, and challenges confronted. In the session, views will be exchanged on Mozambique’s development vision and strategy.
The event will discuss the Productive Capacities Index (PCI), which is an innovative approach applied by UN Trade and Development to measure and benchmark the level of development of productive capacities, and the National Productive Capacities Gap Assessment (NPCGA) as the prelude for building productive capacities.
It will discuss the success stories concerned with building productive capacities and accelerating structural economic transformation and examine the level of productive capacities of Mozambique with implications to national, regional policies as well as international support measures.
It will also examine Mozambique’s comparative advantages and potential together with main challenges to structural transformation and productive capacities’ building and economic diversification from the sectoral perspective, looking at the potential pillars and drivers of growth.
The workshop is the first step in a NPCGA, the latest project in UN Trade and Development’s long-standing programme of technical assistance to Mozambique.
