eTrade for Women eMasterclass - Helping women entrepreneurs lead the digital transformation

The eMasterclass:

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is organizing the first eTrade for Women eMasterclass for South-East Asia, under the theme ‘Helping Women Entrepreneurs Lead the Digital Transformation’.

This eMasterclass will be delivered in partnership with Ms. Helianti Hilman, eTrade for Women Advocate and founder and Chairperson of Javara, Indonesia, and UNCTAD partners.

When? The eMasterclass will be held online from Thursday 1 October to Thursday 15 October 2020. Sessions will be scheduled one day per week, on Thursday 1, 8 and 15 October 2020.

Who can participate? This eMasterclass invites women digital entrepreneurs from the following South-East Asian countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam. It is open to female candidates who are the founder/co-founder or CEO of a digital business, or of a company that makes use of e-commerce and digital platforms as part of its business strategy and operations.

What will participants learn? The eMasterclass aims at helping women digital entrepreneurs succeed in leading the business digital transformation and contribute to building a more gender inclusive digital economy.

The programme will combine a series of inspirational and learning sessions, aimed at:
• Strengthening participants’ skills and abilities to run a digital business, lead the digital transformation and create value,
• Supporting the emergence of an eTrade for Women community of women operating in the digital ecosystem in South-East Asia,
• Fostering a public-private dialogue between entrepreneurs and local policy-makers for a more gender-inclusive digital economy.

Participants will be given the opportunity to interact and learn from each other, and to hear from experienced and inspirational women digital entrepreneurs.

The eMasterclass will feature two live sessions open to the public:

 

The eTrade for Women Fireside Chat, will take place on Thursday 1 October 2020, from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. (CET). This session will be open by UNCTAD Deputy Secretary-General, Ms. Isabelle Durant, and will be followed by a one-one one conversation between  Ms. Helianti Hilman, eTrade for Women Advocate, and Founder & Chairperson of Javara, Indonesia, and Ms. Karen Lam, former Host and Journalist, Channel News Asia, and Author & Communication Coach. In this inspirational Fireside Chat, Ms. Hilman will share her experience as a successful female digital entrepreneur, and discuss how to overcome challenges and leverage technology to generate economic opportunities for women in the region.  The session will be held on Webex and livestreamed on the UNCTAD Facebook page.

The Policy Dialogue "Creating an Inclusive Digital Entrepreneurial Ecosystem – Perspectives from South-East Asia", will take place on Thursday, 15 October 2020, 10.30 a.m. – 12.00 p.m. (CET). In this session, women digital entrepreneurs, representatives from major donor institutions and policy-makers from across the region will discuss ways to boost digital entrepreneurship and to open more opportunities for women, to build a prosperous and inclusive digital economy.  Panellists will address the following questions: How are women digital entrepreneurs contributing to the digital transformation across South-East Asia? How can they help leverage the potential of e-commerce and digital trade?  What role can Governments and the international community play to support the booming digital industry in South-East Asia for the benefits of the whole? The session will also allow for selected questions from the audience to be shared with the speakers.
