This event blends marine science and ocean trade knowledge in an interactive, quiz-based format designed to promote ocean literacy.
Through gamified questions on topics such as sustainable seafood, marine biodiversity, and ocean-related trade, participants are encouraged to engage in cross-disciplinary learning.
The focus is on raising awareness - especially among youth and general audiences - about the connections between ecosystems, consumption, and sustainable trade practices in a fun and accessible way.
Speakers:
- Ms. Elizabeth Dewar, Junior Ocean and Circular Economy Expert, UNCTAD
- Mr. Kévin Cascella, Chargé des affaires environnementales, Comité National de la Conchyliculture
Elizabeth Dewar is an Ocean and Circular Economy Consultant at UNCTAD, where she supports developing countries in designing and implementing inclusive, sustainable ocean economy strategies.
Her work focuses on nature-based solutions, circular value chains - particularly seaweed - and innovative finance tools such as debt-for-nature swaps.
With an MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management from the University of Oxford and a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Birmingham, Elizabeth brings a science-policy approach to building resilient coastal economies, enhancing ocean governance, and advancing environmental and economic priorities in line with international development goals.
Kevin Cascella holds a doctorate in marine biology, and has worked for the CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research) in the fields of seaweed farming, the blue economy and marine biodiversity. He is currently in charge of the environmental affairs at the Comité national de la conchyliculture (French Shellfish farming committee), where he is working on adapting the industry to the challenges due to climate change and environmental constraints.
