E-commerce can become a powerful driver of economic growth, inclusive trade and job-creation across the developing world.
While some developing countries have made significant inroads into e-commerce, the vast majority is still lagging behind.
Numerous development partners, foundations, and private sector actors are working from different angles to unlock the power of the Internet for economic development. However, current efforts are fragmented and lack sufficient scale.
The UNCTAD-led initiative entitled "eTrade for all" aims to improve the ability of developing countries, and particularly Least developed countries, to use and benefit from e-commerce.
Background
During a series of consultation meetings, several representatives of governments, international organizations and private sector enterprises involved in e-commerce lay down the foundations of eTrade for all.
Stakeholders have contributed their experiences, views and priorities on the eTrade for All initiative to best support developing countries wishing to engage in and benefit from e-commerce.
At the core of the initiative is the eTrade for all platform.
A recent initiative by UNCTAD, eTrade for All, is an excellent example of a program which aims to improve the ability of developing countries, and particularly benefit LDCs, to use and benefit from the digital economy.
